Pros

Regionally recognisable firm with reputation

Cons

There is no structured training and fee earners don't want to give you time and many not suited to teach. I was in a temporary cover role and was hoping initially to look at a training contract here, but decided against applying due to my experience at the firm. Offices and fee earners are very old fashioned but they will claim they are just 'traditional'. There is no hybrid or remote working and they are very inflexible. There is no parking at the office unless you are a fee earner and public transport is very expensive as well as traffic heavy. I did not feel valued as administrative staff. The fee Earner I worked with would generally avoid speaking to clients, especially if he knew they would be difficult. The calls would come through to me and I would feel so bad for clients that just wanted reassurance or to know what was happening from him. I could only do so much and promise a call back he likely wouldn't do. There were also social issues in the office with people having to be moved for example. The firm does not seem to know how to handle certain employees who behave like they are at secondary school. Other trainees there told me to apply elsewhere for training contracts. Or at the very least, "get the qualification and get out!" I am now studying for the SQE supported by a new firm.

Pros

Friendly people within the workplace.

Cons

Management isn’t great and there is no training pathway for younger people. Very old fashioned and traditional thinking.
