Pros

I recently joined Brooklyn Data after leaving a bad work situation, and I'm so glad I did. Yes, there are workplaces that treat you with respect and provide support with thoughtfulness and care -- and this is one of them. Everyone I've met is incredibly friendly, supportive, and helpful. The entire company setup has been deliberately crafted to create a good balance, allow time for learning and growth, and provide great benefits. Salary reviews are done frequently to ensure that pay remains competitive with the market -- and they're standardized across the company for fairness and transparency.

Cons

I love it all, but it might not be right for everyone. To do well at Brooklyn Data, you should: * Enjoy learning new things and be adept at figuring stuff out. Your colleagues will jump in to help you, but there will be technical challenges that need to be figured out quickly. You might get more breadth than depth in some areas, because you might not have the luxury of time at that particular moment to do more research. There is always something new to learn, and you will be challenged daily. * Be okay working with a fully distributed company. You'll get a generous allowance to set up your home workspace, but there's no office to go to.

Pros

Some of the best data professionals I’ve ever worked with. The standard of work here is great, and there is so much to learn from the people here. Work life balance is respected, though there are definitely some busy periods. A lot of upper management have families and are very understanding of being flexible with one’s schedule Interesting clients who trust us a great deal Company values are evident in the way they treat their employees

Cons

Some projects can be improperly staffed, which makes the manager or high performing ICs shoulder the burden of figuring out a solution It sometimes feels like a startup, which can be a pro (flexible, quick to adapt), but also a con (can be asked to do much more than your job description). Though you’re only expected to log 40 hours a week, with breaks and refractory period between meetings it can easily feel like a 50hour work week on the regular.
