Pros

- name brand for finding a better job - you get remembrance day off - building is on the subway line

Cons

- mandatory RTO 4 days a week, rumors about an increase to 5. Senior management walks around taking headcount on some floors. You will get shamed by directors if you work from home if you don't keep up stats. - layoffs of entire teams with little announcement, few promotions for good performers, and barely any hiring which means tons of work passed on with no incentive - Extreme cost cutting, and potential that bonuses may be heavily cut or cancelled this year for fund shortfalls. Ironically, they are flying in everyone from India/HK/US/UK/etc. in June on first-class seats, so I guess that Toronto employees don't matter. - no upward mobility unless you have been there for a long time or you are very in demand - very high turnover on some teams and no effort to keep retention - horrible old building that looks like it hasn't been renovated since the 80's. Always construction nearby so its loud. - some teams are a boys club and fratty - building is in a blighted area of Toronto, if you are woman you may get harassed walking down the street

Pros

They are diligent in responsibly investing the pension fund for Canadian citizens.

Cons

The company claims to be progressive, but its roots are inherently as conservative and bureaucratic as it comes, stemming from the government. The hierarchal structure is extremely limiting in terms of being nimble and adaptive. If I want to talk to a director, I need to literally go through my own director first before even contacting them. Everyone is looking over everyone’s shoulder out of fear and a starvation mindset. This is a decent stepping stone if you have the ability to improve yourself, otherwise this is not even close to a higher tier investment firm and the leadership is a reflection of that.
