Pros
Interesting business to learn about dealing with internal politics and how to play favourites. Great ifn you love to work at an average pace and be rewarded by numerous alcohol fuelled parties for average rate work and under performance - much like many of the Area Managers who, in any other business would barely qualify as a Store Manager.
Cons
A total lack of ownership across the board. Unless Gerry happens to like you or consider you his favourite, you will never have a career at Nero. Long timers appear to think they understand culture and use it as an excuse to be lazy. Don't try to challenge the norm or bring expertise from previous roles - you'll be shut down and deemed "not cultural". Poor pay for store teams with a huge expectation to run a high turnover store. Senior directors don't appear to even get on with each other. No unity as a team. A MISERABLE, rude, arrogant and rude FD who walks around the office ignoring anyone not on his favourite list. Gerry insists on signing off things and so processes grind to a total halt. Gerry insists on a process called "brainstorming" where a large group of us are held in a room all day, sometimes until into the evening to give feedback on three business. But one rule - no positive feedback allowed nor are you allowed to respond to feedback about your own department. So a truly miserable and degrading experience when you're sat there listening to people birch about your hard work only for Gerry to then insist on an action plan....
