      Pros

      Management hires talented people and then gives them the day-to-day freedom to excel. Lots of room to innovate. Executive team is adept at navigating a sometimes turbulent business environment. Open books. Long institutional memory and tradition of service to readers.

      Cons

      Despite being relatively small, new initiatives sometimes spring up from out of nowhere. No employer match on 401(k) contributions.
