Pros

From a freelancer's perspective: so many pros! First off, Carbon Design treats and PAYS FREELANCERS FAIRLY. I've never run into an issue with compensation. At times, projects have overrun initial estimates due to incomplete info from clients, extra rounds of revisions, etc. All paid up without argument. I recently had to adjust my rate (rising cost of living is a killer). Not a word of protest; no insistence to be grandfathered in, no murmurings about finding another, more affordable writer. That's how I know they value talent and partnership. Projects have reasonable timelines and the team respects capacity limitations. Anticipated changes are flagged well in advance—so important for freelancers managing workloads that span multiple clients. Project management is on point! Knowing that PM infrastructure is in place, I can focus myself fully to the work of writing, which isn't true of all the clients I work with. The work is interesting. Opportunities span a wide array of industries and project types. I've worked with Carbon for just over two years on projects in healthcare, SaaS, sales and more. I've written video scripts, white papers, web copy, blogs, the list goes on. The variety is a boon for a writer with ADHD. The team is fantastic. Scott is an outstanding leader; involved, committed, with a ton of great insight and a light hand on the reins. No micromanagement here! The project management team are a delight, one and all. I've met some stellar fellow freelancers too. TL;DR Carbon is great and I'll keep working with them as long as want to keep hiring me.

Cons

Since Carbon is headquartered in the U.S., their system isn't set up for direct deposits/transfers to international (read: Canadian) accounts. My invoices are paid by cheque, which take a little extra time to get to me. Also the usual volatility re: opportunities, but that's typical of freelance.

Wow! Thank you so much! We really appreciate the kind words, but more importantly, a huge thank you for describing, in great detail, what it's really like working at Carbon from a freelancers perspective. And yes, we truly value our talent and as a result, we pay them what they are worth!

Pros

Carbon Design fosters a dynamic and trusting culture, making distributed employees feel part of something bigger. The formula is simple: partner with exceptional talent, offer autonomy and flexibility, and everyone wins. As someone who pivoted from a full-time demanding career into a more flexible way of working, Carbon Design has certainly validated my decision to take the leap! The work itself is exciting, meaningful and truly world class, something rare in more traditional agencies or consultancies.

Cons

Being on-demand, the work can ebb and flow. However, expectations are clear from day one. I would imagine most individuals in the Carbon Design ecosystem view this as a strong positive.

Pros

• A group of talented and smart people coming together to tackle difficult projects with the final creative output paramount. Needs to be engaging and successful for client—— always. • Makes the Gig Economy and work/life balance real by bringing in the right talent to bear on the right projects at the right time. • The deadlines are the deadlines and how you get there is totally up to you. You are fully responsible for your own time management which really is a wonderful way of working allowing for a great balance between the responsibilities of life and family and the work. • Not to be redundant but merely to stress, there is no "just throw people on the project". All projects are thoughtfully staffed to make sure each client project has the best and right people on it.

Cons

• Very little physical, face-to-face time working together. The distance between people can be challenging at certain moments in projects when it is way more convenient to walk down the hall and speak to someone or sit in a room and brainstorm ideas. It happens but not as often as needed.
