Pros

Cool technology product, with some great applications.

Cons

I was given wildly inconsistent directions from management, often from day to day. I would be told to do one thing, then asked why I was not doing something else. It was difficult to work in this environment of constantly shifting expectations. In addition, my manager and other men at the company were openly hostile to women. The men routinely gaslight female employees, and male employees take credit for the work of their female co-workers.

I am sorry to hear your journey at CARTO did not go as expected. We move fast with urgency, we are dynamic and sometimes it means that we make mistakes. We are not perfect and occasionally we struggle with our fast-paced environment and the decisions that have to be taken with speed. Sorry to read you left the company with the feeling that we were hostile to women. Did you let us know you felt this way? We take our equal treatment rule seriously and we always respond to everyone who brings our attention to this matter. Thank you for your feedback!

Pros

Maps are really cool and the product was interesting. Remote first.

Cons

The leadership team is lost. The company is 10 years old and struggling to find its sales positioning or growth. Startups need to grow to live….I’m not convinced there is any vision or competitive spirit to win in the space or set their employees up for success. The leadership will blame you, and then ensure you are out the door and take no accountability. This is not a company I would recommend. I would look at the tenure of the senior leaders as a representation of the current state of affairs.
