Pros
With little attention to parallel construction here:
- Solidly if mysteriously funded
- Product solves problems in encouraging technical spaces—and has numerous marquis enterprise customers even in this early stage
- Smart, fun, capable coworkers
- Chart and own your trajectory
- Design success metrics for yourself
- Chance to determine process and best practices for your role
- Excellent vacation policy (not an “unlimited PTO” scam)
- Remote work possible
Cons
While the StarRocks project was internationally established for a few years, we started building the U.S. team and market basically from nothing, under two years ago. We’ve seen strong early success, but are small as of now, and you won’t get away with coasting. You have to be top-performing and wise/experienced in your role to succeed. Not a cookie-cutter job; everyone is necessary.
The other challenges are typical of a company of any size selling an enterprise augmentation of an Open Source product.
