Unstable hours and declining standards - Food and Beverage Associate Celtic Manor Employee Review

Pros

Beautiful location and prestige on the CV

Cons

The working environment is incredibly stressful and, at times, toxic. There is a culture of bullying where senior staff members are frequently mean or even abusive toward new starters. Rather than being mentored, new associates are often treated with hostility. This, combined with the "PlanDay" system, makes for a very unstable job. Shifts are not allocated fairly; there is clear favoritism among shift managers, making it nearly impossible for those outside of specific "cliques" to get enough hours to live on. Management seems to prefer hiring younger, inexperienced staff to save on wages, but they provide very little training. This shows in the lack of professionalism—from the way staff are treated to the cleanliness of the cutlery (water and soap stains are common). They are now relying on third-party agencies, which has only made the service and the atmosphere worse.

Pros

- some other staff were kind, mostly the other part time workers.

Cons

- Higher members of staff were rude and condescending - I worked there at 16 and was made to feel stupid and was overworked and belittled - if I said I wasn’t comfortable doing something like carrying heavy things, I was shouted at and told to do it anyway - when I made a report about a staff’s behaviour I was told I was free to leave if I wanted, but he was staying because he was a higher member of staff.
