Anti-progress form of media - Anonymous Centre Daily Times Employee Review

Pros

Great place to gain some outdated media skills to start a business or go elsewhere. You'll learn exactly how not to work within a company and interact with employees and coworkers.

Cons

Print media is even more outdated than AOL IM. The pay is low and the corporate climate is cold at best. Bullying is used by management to "get results" for an outdated business model. Although I've said that one can gain valuable "skills" via the CDT, I wouldn't look to this place as a great stepping stone and it's likely you will leave on a sour note (everyone does).

Pros

Management encourages people with good ideas and initiative, promotes from within whenever possible. New editorial staff is changing the direction of focus to new media. Digital emphasis blooming with new publisher.

Cons

It is hard to be a locally focused company as part of a large national chain, especially in an industry like the media.

Pros

Great place to gain experience and learn new skills to take elsewhere, particularly since the newspaper staff has been cut over the past few years.

Cons

Badly managed organization with poor corporate oversight. Print business is on its way out, but digital products and competition are not being aggressively or realistically targeted. The entire organization is stuck in an outmoded and reactionary mentality. "Out of the box" problem solving is actively discouraged. The organization is afraid to take risks, despite rapidly losing revenue and readership with local competition.
