Pros

Chewy's leadership is extremely employee-centric. The decision-making framework around everything from best hiring practices, to compensation, to rolling out proper rewards and recognition within talent management is all excellent. We aren't perfect - but we are still only a 13 year old business despite being a $14 billion company. In all my years at Chewy, I have yet to see a decision get made, or a process roll that I didn't feel was generally in the best interest of team members and the long term success of the company. We continue to grow, and at a rapid pace, vs many companies of this size, which continues to provide opportunities on career growth in various sectors of the business.

Cons

It's tougher to get promoted at more senior levels than it used to be. Given that Chewy is continuing to grow quickly while raising its quality and hiring bar at the same time, it can definitely be fatiguing trying to continue to advance your career if you don't have high grit. It's essentially going through a bit of 'workload inflation" where the scope you are expected to take on within your level or job class is increasing. It's definitely a good thing long term - in other words, 5 years from now, we won't suffer from the leadership bloat that affects many business. However, while living through it, it can be tough to get promoted, or get members of your team promoted, even if you or they have greatly increased scope over several years, given that that simply has become the new expectation and standard. It's not a con for the business, and new team members coming in might not even notice, but it's felt internally. The good news buried inside of this con is that you will get an opportunity to take on more scope that you otherwise might have, and it's a good forcing function to growing your remit, learning more about the business, and getting increased exposure.

Pros

I am very happy in my role and grateful for the growth I have experienced over the last four years. Selling pet insurance has helped me become more confident and skilled in sales, communication, and customer support. I truly enjoy helping clients understand their options and feel supported when making decisions for their pets. I also value being part of a team where I can support my teammates and take on tasks that contribute to the overall success of the department. I appreciate the opportunities I have had to grow, improve, and make a positive impact in my role.

Cons

I would appreciate more alignment between daily responsibilities and the core expectations of the role. Some of the additional tasks assigned do not directly connect to pet insurance or sales. These tasks have impacted my overall adherence and metrics. I understand the importance of supporting business needs, but I believe it would be beneficial to reevaluate this process so that agents can remain focused on the responsibilities that best support their role and performance expectations.
