Pros

There are some pros to working at Generation USA: work-life balance can be pretty good for most people and most coworkers really do believe in the mission.

Cons

Working at Generation USA includes a number of problems. A fundamental problem is that the CEO has misled funders about what is possible. This leads to regular revising of goals, a loss of credibility and poor employee morale. It hurts employees to lead them to believe in a goal, fail to achieve it, and then move on like nothing has happened. Most people who join a mission-driven organization do so to achieve the mission, so the feeling of constant failure stings. A small group of people move up in the organization but there are few systems to help anyone else. There's no real performance evaluation system. The DEI effort went nowhere in its first year. Regular re-orgs mean that many employees don't have the time or resources to establish themselves in a role. Ultimately, this has real impacts on learners, who are supposed to be the point of the organization. When instructors are hired last-minute, program quality suffers. When there's no real business development strategy, learners are on their own to find jobs. If you join Generation, be prepared to be lied to by management, hope to get lucky during a re-org, and find yourself with no real support.

Pros

Introduced me to digital marketing and that’s it

Cons

Ever since I became an “alum” for Scameration USA I had watched the downfall happen in 4K. The layoffs had a bunch of instructors and HQ out of jobs (and thankfully they were able to find much better jobs at much better programs like Merit America) and the people that were left working at Scameration USA did not do their jobs at all. You weren’t sure who your career placement person was and they were only available through email, which is often vague. The internship they give to you is also a scam - let’s just say you will owe the IRS in taxes after the fact because the stipend wasn’t taxed and you have to file it as a Schedule C - Business self-employed income. Huge, huge mistake. I was also kicked out of the slack channel after calling out the incompetent HQ members so many times and apparently my calling out was discouraging students. It’s not like they did not know how Scameration USA made these people quit their jobs to learn tech and no one is getting full time jobs after the fact. It took me a full year to get a full time job and it’s because I disaffiliated myself with Scameration USA and signed up for another fellowship program. It’s now known as ChooseU since Generation disaffiliated itself from its USA program but don’t be fooled. They don’t even have any programs listed on their website anymore other than a Microsoft certification and anyone can do that without signing up for Scameration USA!
