Pros
CalPers retirement is probably the only thing this place has going for it. There is also management leave for employees in the Management class.
Cons
Where to start? After working remote for over a year due to the Covid19 pandemic, staff has been asked to come back full time with no allowances to work remote. Even in the event where you may have a sick child who must be kept home from school, you must use sick or vacation time even though we still have the “capability” to work remotely. There is a lot of work place drama that leads to a very unprofessional work environment. Employees are vindictive and backstabbing. The health insurance is atrocious. A couple years ago the city entered in to a health insurance contract whereby hundreds of employees were stuck with large medical bills since the insurer ended up choosing to not pay their end. To this day, I still have bills showing up from a local doctors office demanding payment for services rendered, even though I have already paid them. The city has since moved on to providing insurance through Kaiser or Sutter health, both of which are extremely expensive.
