Pros

The company are extremely responsive to staff feedback and input and are always keen to find ways of improving their processes and systems. In the time I've been with Coatsink, they've implemented a number of new processes to try and improve current pain points. These are constantly evolving and being built upon as the team grows. The company are extremely supportive for anyone with poor mental health offering counseling sessions when we had to work from home during COVID-19. Very inclusive of all nationalities, genders, and it's a very multi-cultural workplace which is great. Everyone who works here is generally a 'good egg' and always happy to offer help if you're stuck with something. There's a really nice friendly atmosphere as a result of this too. Perks such as free food days, discovery days (to experiment) and company parking/metro pass.

Cons

Onboarding process could be a little more process driven / streamlined for new people entering the company. If you're new, try to keep an open mind, get to know other departments, and keep asking lots of questions. You will always get a friendly answer. Sometimes it's difficult to maintain a good work-life balance especially during crunch period on our big titles. It can be easy if you care about you job to become burnt out from overworking, but my advice would be to plan ahead to try and avoid this as much as possible. If you do still want to do overtime (which is always optional) then get this agreed with your project leads and make sure you get pay or recoup holidays for your extra work.

Pros

- Very friend devs, you won't feel alone here - Great "family fun" projects with a lot of style and heart - Decent number of entry-level position, good way to get some professional experience

Cons

- Management is just as top-down as AAA studio. Not quite what I had hoped for when you're on a project with ~ 10 people - Poor planning causing unnecessary stress, both within individual projects and across projects - Devs not having much influence on what projects get brought on, scope or timeline - Little agency in day-to-day work - Poor pay ... but the low cost-of living in the North East kinda makes up for it
