Horrible narrow minded organisation - Anonymous employee Compassion International Employee Review

Pros

Children are being cared for through this organisation. There are possibilities of progression within the company (the higer you climb the higher you are exposed to senior management where the cracks will start to show). There are great benefits for parents, obviously with it being a child charity organisation.

Cons

Senior management behaviour is very judgmental and extremely narrow minded. Unwilling to listen to any new ideas, they know best and if it's not something they are used to doing you will be criticised and ignored, especially if you are'nt connected to their known network. They do the same thing year on year and consider it innovative simply because they've changed an image. They pretend to care about their staff, but it's not genuine. They remind me very much of the pharisees described in the bible by Jesus. Very odd company culture vibe. They practice christian rituals but that's exactly what it is; a ritual, lacking real genuinity behind the action. The company values and ethos are not reflected within the organisation.

Pros

I can't say enough good things about Compassion. I've been here almost eight years, and I have no plans of changing that any time soon. The holistic model they have for child sponsorship. They have a similar holistic view of their employees. There's a strong focus on work-life balance. They make a generous contribution to our retirement plans. I may not have this quote exactly right, but I believe the president of Compassion has said, "The most important thing about you to Compassion is not what you do, but it's who you are." And I believe him.

Cons

No place is perfect, and the bigger they are, the less perfect they are. I wish it didn't take as long as it does to bring about change when it is needed, but it's a big ship and it's slow to turn. However, to paraphrase a funny quote, "Compassion is a lot like pizza. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good."
