Pros
-Excellent work-life balance -Interesting and challenging work -Following acquisition, operating a bit like a startup, so there are lots of opportunities to wear multiple hats, learn and grow. -President is both humane and brilliant. She is slowly leading the team through multiple difficult transitions resulting from both the acquisition and years of ineptitude from prior management. -Salary increases/bonuses were reasonable this year—new policies implemented for transparency and fairness. -Nice location downtown, with views on the water -If you are a visionary thinker, or enjoy the challenge of building teams from the ground-up, this is a great place to be. There is great work to be done here, all built on the backbone of a company with an established reputation in the industry.
Cons
-Changes aren’t happening fast enough. Team is losing good people due burnout and mistrust in leadership. -Gaps in leadership and lack of strong collaboration at the Director level. President has too many direct reports, and strategic vision isn’t adequately filtering down to mid-level managers, which in turn does not filter down to line-level employees. -Since acquisition, Pres. has had to focus a lot of time shoring up areas that were formerly managed at a corporate level. This has pulled her focus away from other process issues within her Division that desperately need attention. -There is a high degree of apathy throughout the organization when it comes to budgets and deadlines. Everyone is hiding behind bad processes and weak leadership. Infighting is getting us nowhere. There needs to be ongoing strategic discussions and decision making, and everyone needs to either get on board or get out.
