Pros
Pay- Better than local area. PTO- Good amount of PTO to use throughout the year. Overtime- If you want the hours, they for sure are there. Uniform Allowance- $250 for first time use/ $150 for each year afterwards. Shirts, Pants, Utility Belts, but no boots. Advancement- With the turnover rate, it's very easy to move on up or transfer to another facility with 6 months experience. Posts- Every facility is different, but you can apply to work various posts within the facility that aren't just working the floor. Inmate transport, programs, medical, and more.
Cons
Work/Life Balance- Only if there was one With the overtime how it is, that won't change for a while. Overtime- Like I said it's there, but they will have you stay almost everyday. Leadership- Some are just ridiculous, they will not want to be bothered by you, will show favoritism towards overtime and posts. Additional Bonuses- Will not give you anything extra if you are a trainer or tactical team. Policies- Continue to change all the time. Guard Findings- At-least for my facility, CoreCivic will get fined for pretty much anything that the advisers (the contract auditors) will find. Don't end up that person that costs the company money. You will get in trouble. Turnover Rate- Officers either leaving for better opportunities or just being fired.
