Pros
- generally youthful and laid-back environment
- access to tons of 'cool' events, parties, free booze, etc
- good social environment, if this is something you're interested in
- younger/newer employees do genuinely get the opportunity to contribute ideas and work on actual projects, if they speak up. i learned a lot of skills here - then after two years left for a job that paid twice as much.
Cons
- poor management, upper echelons controlled by a tightly-knit and out-of-touch boys club
- unbelievably low pay with few opportunities for advancement or promotion
- terrible benefits which take forever to kick in
- expectation is that you should be grateful for access to how 'cool' fader events are, rather than being compensated well. this is a pro if you are trying to meet people in new york, but also expect that you'll have a lot of after-hours events to attend to regularly.
- certain department heads are notoriously bad-tempered and unpredictable
- high turnover, unsurprisingly
- lack of respect for many of the lower employees - mailroom guys, FARM team, etc.
