Pros
Cowan is a good company to work at if you are a recent college graduate like I was. In general they are very fair and I have few complaints about my time at Cowan. I worked in the billing department and was surprised to see several negative reviews on glassdoor. I found my time there to be rewarding in the aspect that I was able to learn new things, and develop key skills which have benefited me in my current position. The only reason I left was to pursue a better job related to my graduate degree. I believe the negative reviews are nothing more than the same disgruntled employee posting again and again because they have nothing better to do with their time. I felt compelled to share my experiences in order to give an objective, unbiased review of the company. It is not the perfect place to work, but it is a good, quality company which could become a great company with the right leadership and more disciplined core values.
Cons
During my time at Cowan, there was some unprofessionalism in the department because of a former manager who hired all of their personal friends to work in the department. This put extreme stress on the department and was not an appropriate way to manage a department of this size. These friends only had a High School Diploma for a job which required a college degree. Some of these people lacked the maturity, skill set, and level of intelligence to handle the technical aspects of the job. What made it worse was the same friends were promoted above more deserving employees who were better qualified. Thankfully, senior management recently recognized this problem and made several changes to improve the department including placing a new manager from the outside, and restructuring the department. The new management has fixed these past problems in my opinion.
