It's a job....? With money...?

Pretty much everything. I worked my bag off for them and only ever was given a Christmas gift on one occasion because at the time I had moved to the city and didn't have evening work, had a lot of time to invest in making lessons. It never got better. Multiple, continuous instances of asking, recommending, them to provide paid prep time so that I could have some reason to wake up at 6am to make decent lessons. They expect you to have a course made from scratch and don't care about how you do it, or if you have multiple other classes to teach in the day to make ends meet. Chinese staff are given priority and have a snotty attitude towards other staff, yet people wonder why there's a stereotype in Vancouver about Chinese people being rude and racist! Majority of classes are online, instructors seem to be totally random. Staff and instructors come and go like the wind and be prepared to not have your paycheques, T4s, or basically anything else prepared on time. The wage was OK when I was working there, if you didn't include all the unpaid prep. However, nowhere near enough to make ends meet in Vancouver. Truly disappointing human experience, because it's completely insensible! Somewhat true of the language industry across the board in Vancouver unfortunately. However, this place definitely is one of the leaders in loserdom. Avoid unless you are a glutton for punishment. Really, it will erode your self esteem and willpower and you'll be looking for another job within weeks. It's not worth it, unless you want to volunteer or something.

Like someone else mentioned here before: Don't ever work here. It really is that bad. Unfortunately I needed a job. Anything. So I took this one and on day one, I already wish I didn't. Their mission statement is all about teaching students, but they don't care at all. They care only about the money the students pay. As an instructor I had to run after my money every time. They either forget about it, are on vacation, or just slow and don't understand that we need it asap. Some of the programs are a big mess. No materials at all, no structure, and courses that don't make sense. And we as instructors have to teach it.
