Pros
- Offers SO MUCH to patients (in house counseling, psychiatry, obgyn, podiatry, MAT, HIV, Hep C, Coumadin clinic, dental) - The people who want to work here will go above and beyond to support you and the patients - Better pay and benefits than other FQHCs in northern Illinois - Medical leadership is really supportive - Wonderful patient population overall, diverse and very grateful - No on-call for APPs - APPs have autonomy and essentially practice at full scope with physician consultation only as needed - UpToDate access
Cons
- Standard community medicine challenges (complex patients, under/uninsured, low health literacy, lack of specialty care access, etc etc etc) - Major workflow problems, mostly related to turnover, and not allowing RNs to practice at their full scope. - No inbox coverage. If you're out of office you either need to cover it yourself or ask colleagues. Most providers work many hours at home every week to stay on top of it. - eCW. - Minimal support for new hires. New PA/NP grads have very little supervision and must seek out mentorship themselves. Especially challenging in the context of the bigger workflow issues.
