Pros
Being an intern / volunteer in the outreach programs created by the DAYA Foundation was truly the foundation for my future work. I was honored to work closely with Sarahjoy Marsh, the founder and primary program leader for years before the pandemic. I transitioned to an online role during the pandemic and I am now established in my own career as a yoga teacher and social justice advocate. Sarahjoy's inexhaustible commitment to making the world a better place, starting at the most local level, as she would say, "with the relationships that we are in right now, whether at work, home or in service settings - to build a community amongst those relationships, to build a movement that advocates for a better world", is truly now the foundation for how I see my contribution to society. I felt encouraged and empowered by Sarahjoy's mentorship. I learned so much about respecting the humanity in everyone around me, whether at the public yoga studio or in the prison. Whether a student or a teacher; an adult in custody or an officer. I also learned how to be compassionate toward my own inner humanity. Thank you!
Cons
I don't have any cons to report. I have glanced at other reviews on GD and all I can say is I definitely did not have, nor witness, the things in those reviews. Sarahjoy was always very approachable and when she needed to be occupied in a classroom or a meeting, she was gently clear about her availability on the fly. She regularly returned to any loose ends that needed attention in order to help me continue whatever project I was working on.
