Pros

You get sent to clients which explicity tell you what they want. You can be sure the defined tasks are ones that add value.

Cons

DVT is in the business to supply low-cost labour to companies. If you ever outgrow your role, DVT will not help you properly evaluate your skills and see how you have grow and where you want to go. If you do well, you don't know. If you suck, you don't know. DVT can push your salary expectations down and make a lot of money from the client - that way they keep the difference. And, heaven forbid, you produce more than expected value - DVT will not help you get rewarded for your skills and talents. If your skills would ordinarily charge more money, DVT will discourage your practicing those skills at the client. If they don't get to charge for extra skills, you don't get to be the best version you can be at the job. When you ask for a long-overdue raise, bad feedback comes out of thin air to cheat you out of a performance bonus. You really should go in with a plan to leave as soon as a client engagement is over, go to interviews and measure yourself in the market. That way you'll grow. Also, you don't get benefits like medical aid or retirement. The company just doesn't seem to care about it's people.

Pros

Over my five years at DVT I've been given all the tools and support I needed to grow as a frontend developer, and I've kept levelling up the whole way through. The company genuinely lives its "grow" purpose there's a strong learning and development culture and real investment in people through exposure, training, and honest mentorship. The culture itself is welcoming and collaborative, and I've consistently felt invested in rather than just utilized.

Cons

Growth and project opportunities can vary depending on which client account you're staffed on. Even as an experienced developer, some clients still expect you to prove yourself from scratch, which can mean re-establishing your credibility each time you move to a new account.

Pros

DVT has a very supportive and encouraging work environment where it is easy to reach out to colleagues and get help when needed. The company also provides office lunches on Wednesdays and Thursdays, which adds to the positive culture. There are good opportunities for growth and development, and employees are supported through challenges rather than being discarded for mistakes. Progress, effort, and good work are recognised and rewarded, creating a motivating workplace.

Cons

As consultants, we can sometimes feel isolated when working at client sites, as day-to-day work may be removed from the company environment. Unfortunately, the supportive internal culture does not always translate into client engagements, which can make it harder to experience the same sense of connection and support while on assignment
