Pros

The pay was competitive for the industry.

Cons

The work culture is very toxic. This was set by the founder and CEO of Dataengine. While working there I watched 5 people join the business and resign because of the way they were treated by the CEO. He does not support his people, was always quick to blame people and was not receptive to feedback. The churn rate of employees was extremely high (5 people in 12 months with only 7-12 people in the team) and everyone left for the same reasons, which were never properly addressed. The CEO generally liked to blame all the issues in projects on anyone that wasn't him, it was never his fault. He plays favourites, and if you fall out of favour you'll be next on the blame train. Once I found an employee literally crying after work because he got bad "feedback". Feedback at Dataengine consists of the CEO taking you into a room and listing all the things you are doing badly. The CEO would love to tell us how we were part of a dynamic startup, and we should be happy about working on all the cool "new tech". But Dataengine never did any of the things that make working at a start up worth it. No ESOP even though we were all taking the risk of working in a very early stage business, no fun culture of hustling to get stuff done, just blaming people for not delivering or screwing things up. I had a "career dvelopment" chat in which I thought I would get some indication of how the early employees would be rewarded for growing the business, getting new people on board and generally dealing with the stress of working in a cash poor start up. But instead I was told that "there is opportunity to grow in the business".

Pros

You get exposed to lots of different projects from customers in different industries and different countries. You get treated like a subject matter expert, which is really nice and refreshing, young and collaborative team who support each other. CEO is very supportive, and if bandwith is tough he steps in to help out which is not seen in big corporates. HR have some nice things like coffees, team building, lunches, games

Cons

It's a small business which is founder led and funded, but growing pretty well.

Pros

The technical team who gets work done.

Cons

Management does not appear to be growing the business. The company claims to have been around for five years, yet it has only expanded to ten members. They keep making the same mistakes. There is little help to ensure successful sales. After the salesperson goes, the CEO and management blame him for not having a pipeline. The CEO micromanages everything. CEO listens to many fools and podcasts. But the company is not growing.
