Pros

There are no pros, believe me I have thought long and hard!

Cons

Where does one start…SMT have no idea of how to treat their staff. There are no benefits, well not for everyone! Any iniative is purely lip service as let’s just say that the SMT are very often economical with the truth, that’s if they share anything at all and will put you in the promise land to remain there forever more. So be warned at interview stage. The interview process alone should be a red flag! Be sure to follow your gut. Ignore it at your peril! No work life balance, they take take take and give absolutely nothing. Poor back end operations as they don’t value their teams and deliveries are often messed up for some reason or another. If you want to be managing suppliers that have been not paid what they are owed in a timely fashion then this is the company for you. One is often having to play the role of good cop/bad cop (well mainly bad cop!) delivering bad news to clients and chasing invoices which may not be in your JD. If you are actually given a JD! Firefighting should be in your JD as a prerequisite skill, bring your hose no matter the role. You are expected to exceed at a role without tools to do the job. Madness! If you stay more than a year then you’re stuck there for a while until you realise that there has to be a better way and then you spend the rest of your time totally devalued, demotivated and desperate to get out!

Thanks for this review and taking the time to leave it. We've had a number of conversations internally about it as there is a lot of stuff here. We happen to be proud of the longevity of our teams; notwithstanding Covid and all its challenges we've continued to recruit and grow - and it's down to the strength of those teams. I don't think that we have poor operations or indeed processes (but there is always room to improve); what I do know is that everyone has a JD; everyone gets benefits (extensive holiday perks based on length of service and extra time at Christmas; automatic membership of a EAP programme; fully flexible working practices amongst others); we have a Company all-hands every 2 weeks (and have had for 18+ months) at which we communicate our results, trading and updates, as well as bringing in guest speakers and addressing cross-Company topics such as Diversity & Inclusion; Carbon Neutrality and current market conditions. We've been honoured with some of the speakers we've had. We wish you well in your new role - Nick
