Pros
You get to sew for a good part of the day. You also get to be a small part in someone's special day. You get the (infrequent) customer that is really special, mellow, sweet, and easy to work with. If the right group gets together, there tends to be a sisterly bond amongst the employees.
Cons
Low wages. They give you 39 hours a week to avoid having to give you benefits. You are punished if you go to 40. The one or two people in the department that are authorized for full-time are punished for going into overtime even when forced to due to an unreasonable workload. Many customers have unrealistic expectations for their alterations. The prices are high, and customers often feel blindsided by them. Management is often burned out, and therefore sometimes difficult to work with. The consultants are paid and treated unfairly, so they can sometimes have a chip on their shoulder. Upper management likes to come in and try to strong-arm the place (changing/adding restrictive policies) without proper knowledge of the store and its issues.
