Pros
The people in the CWRC are wonderful, helping students can be really fun/fulfilling at times, the availability to work remote evening is great. Especially since students don't always make appointments during your shift and don't always show up to their appointments so there are sometimes weeks where you have plenty of down time.
As long as you stay away from office politics, it can be a pretty chill part-time job.
Cons
When it gets busy (midterms & finals), it's BUSY. Sometimes students use the coaches for help with assignments that have nothing to do with writing. If you are a PoC, you're more likely to be booked more often and it can feel unfair when your coworkers sit around with 0-2 appointments per day while you are booked solid for every shift.
The dean of the department is more concerned with her legacy than the working conditions for coaches.
And considering the required level of education required (Bachelors) , the pay is absolutely ridiculous ($17/hour).
Hours are capped at 28/week.
