Pros
Mission with impact: Deque’s commitment to digital accessibility means everything we do helps make the web and mobile apps usable for everyone—including people with disabilities. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know our work genuinely improves lives.
Remote-first flexibility: Deque’s work-from-home policy is generous and well-supported. It’s not just tolerated—it’s embraced. That makes balancing life and work much easier and more sustainable.
Exceptional coworkers: I’ve been here over 18 years, and the people are the reason I’ve stayed. They’re smart, kind, collaborative, and always willing to help. It feels more like a family, united by a shared mission.
Strong leadership and values: Deque’s leadership consistently provides a clear vision and genuinely supports employees. They care about the mission and the people behind it.
Top-tier tools and industry impact: Deque’s tools are the best in the industry. When I joined, there were about ten of us, going up against competitors with thousands of employees think "The proverbial 800-pound gorillas." Most of them were closed-source and resistant to change. When Deque released the axe ruleset to the world, it was a game changer. It redefined accessibility testing and shifted the industry toward openness, innovation, and real impact. No longer were we trying to prove our rules vs theirs, the world could have a standard. One created by Deque.
Cons
Interesting Times: No company is perfect, and I’m required to list at least one con in this review.
If I had to choose, I’d say Deque faces the same challenges most growing companies do: finding the right people for the right roles, and scaling teams to meet demand at the right time. It’s not a reflection of poor leadership; it’s just the reality of growth in these interesting times.
