Work Can Be Ok, Very Poorly Managed - Gas Engineer Dodd Group Employee Review

Pros

Work has the potential to be ok. Good bunch of work colleagues. Can earn a decent wage but have to work for it. You have to complete a lot of jobs to get this. Pretty much a full van stock for what you need.

Cons

Very poorly managed locally. Workload is ridiculous, just keep dropping jobs on your tablet without even talking to you. No support if stuck on a job, have to rely on other engineers for guidance. No incentives, bonuses or appreciation whatsoever. No sick pay, paternity pay or jury pay. Literally can’t afford to be off even when it’s out of your control or you’re really ill. No communication between management and engineers as to how things can improve from both sides. Poor annual leave when you consider you’re doing 1 or 2 days a week on call out on top. Very poor out of hours rates. Vans constantly breaking down and with no air con. Can’t see at our branch how there is any chance of career progression. No such thing as annualised hours. They want you to work over in the winter but then sit about on the patch in the summer when there is no work. I’m all up for a “work hard, play hard” environment, but at Dodds it just feels like a “work hard, work harder you don’t need time with your family” environment.

Pros

I’ve been in the job for about 8 months and it’s a busy environment with lots to learn. The team is down to earth and friendly and while the job always keeps you on your toes people go out of their way to support you. There are lots of opportunities to try new things and meet new people from different walks of life. One of the most encouraging things is seeing that there are lots of extra training opportunities like NVQ’s, and they’re not just available to younger staff.

Cons

It was an intense start in the the beginning and took some time to find my feet. I’m feeling a lot more confident but there is still more to learn as I’m only early into the job
