Pros
Access to research by some really smart people, interesting innovations in asset allocation or indexing, access to seminars and webinars and in general lots of educational resources. The annual conference is a big plus, great networking and content. Good work/life balance - in the indexing side of the business, on the sales side, never had to work on weekends, stayed late occasionally. Some travel. Good salaries.
Cons
No career progression, people often spend a few months in one role and then their profile changes 180 degrees without much discussion. The organisation tends to hire highly qualified people and pay them well but mistrust them for a long time. No proper training, you are expected to be autonomous, but at the same time, your work is micro-managed. Bloated sales organisation with many people doing meaningless work and insufficient resources where revenue generation actually should happen. A lot of politics and restrictions. Poor business strategy in general, slow or completely lacking in understanding of the business and industry, from a business point of view (but intellectual IP is top notch and that cannot be denied). In some cases people are not qualified for the work they are asked to do. No teamwork or sense of team.
