Pros
Free on the job training because their systems use an obscure language called mapper that almost no one in the world uses. So there is no training anywhere else. Insurance is cheap and excellent. Still offer a pension.
Cons
If you are in IT, you must commit to this place or leave quickly because you will not be able to use these skills ANYWHERE else. No one uses this language and the interactive systems are slow and clunky because they have to work with mapper. There is very much an attitude of "if it ain't your job, don't worry about it". I brought several issues to the attention of my managers and was told we don't care about that, it's another area's problem. Nepotism is common and promotions are handed out based on time in chair rather than ability. Not surprisingly no one ever retires so there is very little room for advancement.
