Pros

They know what they're doing. Sound operations, great business model. The best thing is they have a record of being one of the first movers into a major play. The company benefits, and they pass it on to their employees.

Cons

Decentralization makes it difficult to "settle down" -- who knows where you will be moving to in five years?

Pros

The benefits were excellent, including medical, dental, and vision coverage. When I was hired in 2010, PTO was determined by a combination of age and tenure. By the time I left in December 2016, I had accumulated about five weeks of vacation.

Cons

In 2017, upper management decided to close the Tyler, TX division, which had been operating for at least 17 years. I had planned to retire from EOG, but that decision changed everything. I was given the choice to relocate or be laid off. Because I could not afford the cost of moving, I was laid off, which had a significant negative impact on my life. It took me more than two years to find another job in the oil and gas industry in Tyler, TX.
