Pros

The onboarding process was well-done.

Cons

I have been separated from the company for about a year now. My perspective about the company is a little more settled. First, this company is not a start-up company. They've been in business for quite a while. They just change their business model about every 6 weeks. Second, they micromanage your activities heavily, even though most teachers at Elevate are seasoned teachers. You are observed frequently with planned observations and others unknowingly. There are constant changes in administrative duties, some of which you may not be informed. Before the end of the school year, two layers of support staff were terminated. It was alarming! I thought the company would fold due to mismanagement of finances. Third, the curriculum was very basic in nature, on the level of what an alternative school would have. Fourth, the cameras in the classrooms were TERRIBLE. You could only see about 5 students and the image was fuzzy. It was impossible to identify students, let alone get to know them. Fifth, the pay initially was good, but then the business model changed again and the hourly wage for most teachers was lowered substantially for the following year. For me, the hourly pay dropped about 40%. Sixth, the company prides itself on its fast paced environment. That is a cover-up. The business environment is chaotic and the company covers its errors with labels, such as 'innovative learning environment, up-start entrepreneur company, fast-pace, etc. They really don't know what they are doing.

Elevate K-12 Response

We appreciate your perspective, and we’re glad to hear you found the teacher preparation process well done! However, Elevate K-12 has grown significantly in recent years—not by chance, but through continuous improvement and innovation in virtual learning. The fast pace and evolving business model reflect our responsiveness to district needs, not instability. While teacher pay may vary based on the class periods selected, we want to clarify that at no point has teacher pay been reduced by 40%. Teacher feedback is an integral part of our model and our commitment to instructional quality and student success. While adjustments are sometimes required, we are mindful of how changes are communicated and strive to continually improve. Our curriculum and platform are continuously updated with input from both teachers and districts, and like any school or company we have observation processes in place that are essential to maintaining instructional quality and accountability to our district partners. While no system is perfect, our model is purpose-built to reach students who would otherwise go without certified teachers. That mission continues to guide everything we do and we appreciate your efforts in driving that mission forward.
