Pros
*Great opportunities for learning & job advancement, & lots of feedback from management, at least in my experience. * Really wonderful group of people. Not everyone is going to get along with everyone else at all times, but I've been very happy with my team & the groups we work w/. * Amazing events for a startup of our size & status. We're not Google so don't expect the moon, but we do have food trucks with some frequency, & past events included 10-min chair massages, a yoga class, chocolate fondue, salsa making contest, little arts & crafts, & games. The swag has been pretty solid (picnic blankets, hydroflask bottles, hoodies). * Benefits: flexible schedules, employer-paid health insurance & dental, an annual $250 health incentive, stock options, & an added perk: dogs welcome in the office on the last Friday of every month. Encodia moved to an unlimited PTO system, which has its pros & cons. * Free snacks, seltzer, sodas, kombucha on tap, cold brew. * Also, the science is really cool.
Cons
* Encodia is a startup, which means there is always going to be a level of uncertainty about the future. There is also a culture of hard work, so it's important to make sure you are enthusiastic about the mission & willing to put in the effort before coming onboard. * It's a minor thing, but because of the "unlimited PTO" system, there are very few company-wide holidays, so the first half of the year can be rough. Of course, you can take off whatever days you need, but it's much easier to relax when everyone is expected to be off & you know your inbox won't be overflowing when you get back.
