Pros
Has all the supplies needed to care for patients Great hospital protocols to protect patients 3 12 hr shifts with ok PTO Usually staffed well with PCTs Attendings are easy to reach and approachable. Great new grad orientation.
Cons
Staffing ratios of 5 on days and 6 on nights. Ratios could worsen with new leadership. On heavy inpatient floors workload can vary dramatically. Charting only increases with every year. More work and more patients with similar pay. Salary is below average with mediocre annual raises. Raises do not keep up with inflation. In order to feel well compensated have to be willing to work at other facilities. Salary is based on years of experience and not based on technical skill, working on a complex unit does not give you higher pay. No benefit to working in ICU/ER over a regular medical floor.
