Underpaying Qualified Staff - Rock Climbing Instructor Everyone Active Employee Review

Pros

Due to a management changeover and lack of in house training when I first joined, the company paid a good part towards a CWI for myself and 2 others. As a result we gained a full qualification at a discounted rate.

Cons

Considering the average salary at the time for qualified instructors was around £11 an hour, earning £7.38 (min wage in 2018/2019) was quite insulting.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. It's great to hear you that you gained a qualification. I am sorry to hear you felt the salary does not reflect this. We appricated your commitment to the role and wish you the best of luck in the future.

Pros

Large company with options to relocate around the country, if you wanted to. Very good with health and safety procedures, majority of processes ready to be implemented.

Cons

Very sales driven. Targets, KPIs and profits are prioritised over colleagues and members. Sales team expected to give up personal time on end of month. You're expected to check and respond to emails when you're off or on annual leave. The company is very clique, you don't really progress unless you know someone in a senior role. Salary is always advertised as 'competitive' however, the pay doesn't justify the work you're required to do, or the extra time you work without pay. It's frown upon to claim for time worked outside of your contracted hours. There is no such thing as work life balance: you're expected to work day all the time and not be paid for it.
