Pros

Good place to learn business fundamentals - store front operations, warehousing, product flow, RFQs, customer account management, CRM. Much more you learn but essentially a good place for someone 18-25 to start learning sales and see if that would be a career fit for you. If you are in the right location you will learn about a lot more than just sales. Especially if you are ambitious, curious, and the location is under-staffed like mine was.

Cons

The pay for a sales role is not competitive with other sales jobs out there. If you are good and have skill you will leave for somewhere else that has better incentives for commission. Base salary is enough to float you if you are younger and keep your lifestyle minimal. If your location is under-staffed you will spend a lot of time breaking your back lifting product and doing things not in your job title.

Pros

I like my coworkers and my GM is a good .

Cons

The business model and lean staffing is simply unsustainable. Entry level pay, part time, little training, no commissions. Fastenal is focused on the sale rather than the customer. The wing it mentatility leaves customer service lacking. It's a roll coaster of putting one fire out after the other. They sale the position during the interview process but after your in there's empty promises with no real timelines for when the advancement is coming. Upper management seems out of touch with the day to day business. If you ask for help they simply say you have a good schedule. It's extremely disappointing that it has turned out this way because I was excited about the prospect of becoming an Account manager.
