Pros

The actual dog walking is the only good thing about this job. The clients are usually nice people as well (but not nice enough to give you a tip).

Cons

- The pay is terrible. For as much time as you need to spend getting to and from clients, and coordinating with other sitters to hand off keys, it is not worth it. At the Washington DC location, pay comes out $8.70 (Before tax!) for you to schlep your way out there, walk a mile with a dog for 30 min, and get back home or wherever you need to go next. Basically, you are doing all the work, and get paid peanuts. - When I have tried to coordinate with other sitters to drop off or get keys, it has always been a huge inconvenience. You won't be compensated for this. - If a client is going on vacation, and you are the one who did the consult, they will force you to work that client for the entire period because you are the one who actually met the client. - I have never received a tip from a client. Just a little icing on the cake, they expect you to buy key chain labels for all your keys. Buying 4 labels costs about 9 dollars at the hardware store, which is more than you will get paid for one walk. If you are looking to just make a little extra money, or you are a college student with a hectic schedule, just go wait tables at a restaurant over the weekend, you will make more money doing that for just over the weekend than you will working for Fetch. I wouldn't recommend this job to anyone.

Fetch! Pet Care Response

Thank you for sharing feedback on your employment with Fetch! Pet Care. Our Pet Care Providers are our greatest asset so we take their experience and compensation very seriously. - Our entire team is W2 based which allows us to do tax withholding, bi-weekly direct deposit payments, offer discounted benefits and worker's compensation coverage. - Pay starts at 43.50% of the gross revenue generated by a client. An example would be doing five 30-minute dog walks during a week would pay the employee walker $47.85 gross per week. If you do three recurring walks per week (7.5 hours of walking plus travel time) your gross compensation would come out to $143.55 per week. - Key hand offs are typically made when employees are out on their "route" during the day. Any time there is additional time for a key hand off we request the employee notify the office so we can review the situation for additional compensation. Our three supervisors facilitate many key hand offs for our team. - Our employees can accept or decline any assignment based on their availability. We do try not to split up assignments because of the disruption for pets and clients plus the additional key hand offs. - Many of our clients tip but like any industry it's completely optional. Our team is provided tips in training that the very best way to receive a tip is be warm and engaging, pay attention to the details and be a good communicator. - Fetch! Pet Care reimburses for any required supplies like key tags, leash, poop bags, etc. We have recently provided our supervisors with bulk orders of key tags which are provided directly to our Pet Care Providers so they no longer need to purchase themselves. Providing professional dog walking and pet sitting to our clients is our passion each day. We want to be the best employer possible so we welcome any employee feedback!

Pros

I started 17 years ago as an independent contractor caring for pets. It was then a thriving business with local management and supervision.

Cons

It eroded with absentee management and little communication between Fetch. We became employees and we're underpaid and forgotten. Three days ago I was notified that all my scheduled services for the next two months were canceled. I contacted my customers who said that they did not cancel the services. When contacting Fetch, I was told that the franchise was shutting down that day. No advance notice, no reason, and the following day the website was wiped clean.
