Pros

Interacting with nice families and being able to help students excel

Cons

1. The owner, Lori, was very opinionated about many things. 2. After a week, she began to be very rude and would tell me, a 20-year-old pre-med student, that "now your age is showing", "you are immature and childish", etc. It was after a week and a half that I quit the company due to inappropriate comments from the owner. I constantly felt stressed by Lori. After I quit, she sent an email apologizing about her behavior, but I did not want to interact with her anymore after what she said to me. 3. I never received any pay from First Class Tutors, even though I gave a 30-day notice as the company policy said. Lori did anything she could to try and not pay me, and she never did, even though I quit last summer. 4. Overall, if you want a boss that is very inappropriate, and at times rude, then this is the program for you.

Pros

It’s a really small business, ran by a super nice lady named Lori. I love that I don’t have to answer to a bunch of managers or higher-ups and I like the freedom of being an independent contractor. As long as I show up when I’m scheduled to everything is super chill and I love the kids most of all.

Cons

The only thing I don’t like is having to say goodbye to a student.

Pros

I have worked as a Math and Science tutor for First Class Tutors for seven years and really enjoy it. It is a rewarding part time job with a lot of flexibility. In order to be hired, you have to demonstrate that you have thorough subject knowledge and an ability to teach. I have always been paid on time and would recommend the job. - Flexible schedule - Competitive pay - Relationships with students and family - Rewarding to help students raise their grades and gain confidence. I work a day job in Orange County and Lori (CEO) will always find me students that are close to my work or on my route home so I don't have to do much extra driving.

Cons

Tax filing does cost a bit more since you work as a contractor, but all materials, miles, and vehicle expenses can be deducted. Works well for me since all my students are along my commute from home to my full-time day job.
