Pros

Working at Flamingo Land has to be by far the worst experience of my life. The job itself could be easy and much better but the way the park is managed lets it down. The induction is completely pointless and a waste of 2 days. It's all about saying how amazing the company is which is all overestimated. There's no relevance to your job at all. The health and safety training is just none existent bar a manual handling generic video when you won't be lifting a box during your role. The walk around the park is somewhat okay.. Trying to keep up with the management racing ahead is a challenge. After this you meet your teem and off to work you go head first. Good luck... The trainers are clueless and just mess around during your training. They read out of a book and miss half of the stuff out and hand you some paper and tell you to sign it. The ride manuals contain risk assessments which are again, pointless as half of the things mentioned in it to prevent such things are rather not working, or not in place. The staff hired lack any real passion for their job meaning everyone just comes to work breaks the rules, does not enforce ride restrictions. The operators sit on their mobile phones all day not watching rides. No background checks are done on some staff so you'll not be surprised to find staff working under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The rides supervisors have favourites so the people who brown nose them get free range and get to do what they want. Those that don't just get shafted to the bottom of the pile. If you make a complaint to management it gets totally ignored depending on who you complain about. Because the staffing levels are so low everyone gets away with murder. A lot of bullying takes place within the teams but if you report them the management tell the person that you reported them and they have a good laugh at that. Nothing is done at all, I've witnessed staff members breaking down in tears because of the awful people within the teams and nothing is done at all about it. I've witnessed people with disabilities getting bullied daily and the management just laugh at them and joke about them behind their backs. The park completely lacks equality and equal rights. Breaks might as well not exist depending on where you are situated within the park. No proper break area is provided unless you want to walk 10-15 mins to the canteen although, by the time you get there its time to go back. You'll have to queue for ages for food too so its pointless. Your only other option is to go to the costcutter and pay theme park prices to then sit outside in the cold, pouring rain on a bench which is again, 5-10 mins walk from the cost cutter. On a long busy day been on your feet all day you have no chance to sit down at all during your 8 hour shift. You'll spend your break walking through the park to then walk back again. During my last 2 seasons feedback forms are handed out mid season and the strongest subject has always been break areas and nothing has ever been done and in fact, nothing has ever been taken into consideration when feedback is given. You'll work hard in your role and get abused by rude customers and abused for enforcing ride restrictions. Naturally, they will request a manager and your manager will come and over rule you and make you look like a complete idiot. All the park cares about is money and they have no care in the world for staff. The company boasts during induction how it is passionate about opportunities, rewards etc this is utter rubbish. You never get praised, awarded for any hard work you do. Its always about what people have done wrong during morning brief. You might be lucky to wear a massive staff of the week badge but that's all you get and again, its given to the managements favourite people. You don't get paid for any holidays you book or take out which is awful especially given that your paid weekly. All holiday pay you accumulate is given to you at the end of the season which is a nice bonus given that you are unemployed but if you want time off during the season its impossible if you have bills to pay. You'll find yourself working in very dirty, grim conditions and cleaning equipment pretty much does not exist. Induction should consist of answers to give when the guests constantly complain about how bad the rides smell, how dirty the seats because you don't have anything to clean them with bar a window cleaning spray which you'll likely find one of the staff members have had to urinate in because no toilet breaks are provided. Speaking of which if you need to use the toilet, good luck! The senior management / Park executives are just absolutely awful and clueless. they walk around like they own the world. They don't speak to you, you might as well be a ghost. You are looked at like dirt because your there on minimum wage and just a peasant to them. The best part about it is they decide who comes back the next season, yet they don't even know the staff members by name let alone face. Good luck contacting them too! They have absolutely no respect for you at all as your at the bottom of the food chain. The HR department might as well not exist, you email them with complaints and they just completely ignore you. I loved the job because i love the industry and if things changed and feedback was listened to and the management took not and listened and valued staff members it would be a wonderful place to work. But unfortunately, the place right now is a complete disaster waiting to happen. Do your job well, get punished! Do it bad you get a gold star! Its a shame its so easy to think of cons but here is some positives.

Cons

If you've never had a job before it is easy to get a job at Flamingo Land. The interview pretty much consists of why do you want to work here and no matter what answer you give you're hired. They struggle to hard to get staff to turn people down at this stage. The free entry for yourself is nice and the use of facilities, It would be good if your given free tickets for friends / family as the half price tickets are a pain to get your hands on. Merlin parks give you a family/friends free ticket pass. Here you have to request half price tickets weeks in advance. The food discounts are slightly generous and theres ample staff parking too if you like parking on a muddy field. You do get to work with some interesting people. 1/10 people are pretty decent and you can have a good laugh. If you brown nose the right people it can be easy for you.
