Pros
- Supportive Team: Most of the team members were lovely, collaborative, and eager to help.
- Initial Encouragement: Started with positive feedback, which initially felt promising.
- Potential for Growth: On the surface, the job seemed like a good stepping stone into the software development industry.
Cons
- Micromanagement and Lack of Trust: Constantly micromanaged by a line manager who gave no room for autonomy, despite early claims of satisfaction.
- Condensation and Disrespect: The line manager created an atmosphere where I felt belittled, as if I didn’t know basic things despite my previous experience.
- Subpar Wages: Compensation was well below industry standards for the work and level of responsibility.
- Forced Holidays: Having holidays dictated and forced upon employees at inconvenient times, disrupting both work and personal life.
- Toxic Leadership: The line manager lacked basic leadership skills, turning what could have been a good environment into a demoralising one. This not only affected morale but also undermined productivity.
- "Hospital Feel" Office: The workspace felt cold, sterile, and uninviting, with some parts of the building literally falling apart—adding to the general sense of neglect - no wonder it's been up for sale for years!
