Pros
Amazingly smart, talented, dedicated staff Feels like a family Broad national reach, decent budget, and high profile connections makes it a fun, exciting place to work. Intangible benefits like leftover giveaways from promotional partners, events with celebrities, etc. GLSEN's work with students and local chapters connects you to on-the-ground, in-the-trenches transformational work Important mission Data- & research-driven approach to programming means you know why you're doing the work, exactly what the work is, and whether or not it's effective
Cons
Leadership values employees (assistants, associates, managers) very little. There were "restructures" which included layoffs before, during, and after my time there which eliminated valuable positions while retraining more senior leadership staff that are clearly ineffective and/or contributing to a negative culture Staff turnover is through the roof. In my time there, at least 17 people left (out of a staff of around 30)
