Pros
Enjoyed working with our clinical staff and Medical director was awesome. All were truly caring and put the patients needs first.
Cons
Always pressure to admit even if not "hospice" appropriate. You really have to defend your decision/assessment. Marketing seems to have more control than the clinical staff. they do not consider your work load or even ask before setting up appointments with pt/family for admission assessments. pt ratio is officially 12:1 but upper management won't allow office to hire full time nurse in preparation for growth, they insist census to reach and maintain the additional 10-12 pts before hiring. so really pt/nurse ratio stays around 14-16:1. as pt declines acuity levels increase and need for additional weekly (if not daily) visits arise. that is in addition to admissions, deaths, and prn visits. Management wants to utilize PRN nurses but that is just not the same as having another full time nurse to help with caseload. Charting gets pushed to the side and has to be completed after hours which cuts into personal/family time because full time=salary. I just didn't feel like i was giving the patients and families the care they needed or deserved at this point in their lives.
