Pros

Remote work, other associates/staff are equally miserable

Cons

This particular satellite office is run by people who couldn’t cut it at their old firms and don’t play well with others. At all. Management at this firm is overworked and overwhelmed by their own bosses/caseload and they take it out on their associates/staff, or micromanage them to the point of panic attacks and tears. The partners even take swipes at each other by name calling and venting about each other to their associates. Not very professional… Partners and associates alike are expected to hit high billables. And once you hit that number they only expect more and more and more… the partners do very little to support work-life balance, even for themselves. They all talk a big game, but really are horrible people. They openly badmouth associates and staff (I could tell you how each partner views each associate/staff with direct quotes. That’s how bad it is.), invoke zero faith in their leadership skills, lie about expectations and goals, and refuse to effectively communicate. Many associates make it less than two years, with most looking for a new role at the year 1 mark. Support staff is frustrated and overwhelmed. Just an overwhelmingly palpable toxic environment. Young, new associates come in hoping this firm gives them a chance (and this office will truly hire anyone. That’s how desperate they are) because this firm looks great on paper, and struggle until their very last day.

Pros

Respected firm, objective bonus is nice on top of discretionary bonuses.

Cons

Lots of bureaucracy and the help that's promised is rarely actually available.

Pros

The Minneapolis office is a growing office with great opportunities for associates to get hands on involvement with depositions, motion practice and trials. I found my supervising partner to be a great mentor and person. She cared about me as a person and lawyer. I loved my time at Gordon Rees, but left for increased compensation.

Cons

Less than market pay. Senior associate laterals who were cliquey and sophomoric.
