Pros

Granite was my first real job out of college and the place where I spent over 5 years and held 3 different positions. The company offers a comprehensible benefits package (decent medical/dental insurance coverage, 401k, paid time off, cafeteria on-site, gym on-site, and more). The location is train accessible and if you drive, there are plenty of parking spaces available. For those who have been there for a few years, they can quickly agree with me that Granite is a very comfortable environment. You don't need to work very hard and rarely stay late, your pay is average, and there's not a lot of high stress unless you work in sales or premiers. If you are the type who is easily content with your job and pay, then Granite might be the place for you.

Cons

There is not a lot of room for growth. It's rare that the company opens up a new position, so you generally have to wait for upper management to leave in order for you to move up. Most people in management are near retirement age or have been with the company for so long that they make much more than the average Granite employees, making a steady income at Granite with easy 8-5 job that doesn't require additional hours from home; most of them prefer not to leave at their age. Your pay rarely increases unless you get a promotion, so there's a ceiling if you don't work in a department with a high management turnover. The pay is average unless you are in sales or premiers, but that is also dependent on commission. And even in those departments, it's a luck of the draw meaning it depends what accounts you get. If you're lucky, you can get an easy account and make a great amount in commissions. And if you're unlucky, you end up with a terrible time demanding account that gives you barely any commissions (I've seen it happened). Most managers did not come from a management background, so they are good at what they do, but not necessary good at managing the people who may also be as good as them in what they do. The company is too comfortable and as much as it's a pro, it's a con. This is dependent on the personality of the employee. If you are easily satisfied making an average income, working 8-5 knowing you might never get a promotion but can go home without worrying about work then it's a pro. But if you're highly motivated and will work over the average hours to get to where you want to be, then Granite might not be the best place for you. Unless you're liked or favored by upper management, your chance of getting into that group is very slim.

Pros

No pros what so ever.

Cons

This company and specifically the collections department have very little opportunity for growth, despite what may be promised during the hiring process. Honestly, it’s a circus. Non stop tasks are thrown at employees each day. And Goals are constantly increased so analyst can’t reach them. Employees who work hard and consistently perform well often find themselves stuck in the same position with no clear path for advancement. Promotions and opportunities never appear to be based on performance or merit. Management is one of the biggest issues. They have no clue. Favoritism is prevalent, and certain employees seem to receive special treatment, better opportunities, and more support than others. This creates a frustrating and discouraging work environment where many employees feel undervalued and overlooked. Morale suffers when performance and dedication are overlooked in favor of personal relationships and when there is little accountability for management and no transparency regarding career development. Communication from leadership is lacking, and employee concerns are not addressed. Management gets defensive when employees ask questions or disagree with their stupid decisions. Overall, it can be a VERY challenging place to build a longterm career if you are looking for fair treatment, professional growth, and strong leadership. Turnover rate is very high. Also, micro management is at an all time high. Would not even recommend this place to a college grad for entry level experience, if i could Put 0 stars, i would. For the sake of your mental health, stay far away.
