Pros
The company is “pro-family”, good for people with kids – you get to report to work late because you need to bring your kids to school, you get to knock off early because you need to fetch your kids from school and you get to work from home because your kids are sick. Generous with work travel – employees get to travel overseas (not a short trip but a good 6-7 hours flight) even if it is just for an hour’s meeting. It can be gender equality (or inequality, depending on how you see it) – hire females to show that the company is an equal employer.
Cons
There are a number of employees who hail from the same previous company, not surprising if there are some who probably earn more from the referral fee than from their monthly salary. People are awarded or promoted because they are the boss’ favourite, although they have made no contribution. There are people who have worked for the company for 5 or even 10 years, met their KPI, does their work diligently – not to mention promotion, their efforts are not even recognised simply because they are not the boss’ favourite. Probably due to lack of SOP, the HR team either “don’t know” the answer to your requests or queries, does not bear responsibility for HR related duties or no response to employee grievances.
