Tax Specialist Programme (TSP) - Tax Trainee HM Revenue and Customs Employee Review

Pros

Great colleagues and experienced managers/mentors. The tax work is challenging but very interesting for someone who is new to HMRC. There are lots of opportunities to support others and undertake volunteer opportunities with universities and schools. HMRC has been really supportive to those with reasonable adjustments and medical issues. Upon successful completion of the programme (which lasts between 2-3 years), you will be promoted to Grade 7 and earn a generous salary of £50,000+.

Cons

It is very competitive to get a place on the TSP and it is made very clear that you will need to work above and beyond the hours of a 'normal' office role. The programme will not be suitable for everyone and many find it a challenge if they have family commitments.
