Pros

The Culture and Values of the company are fantastic. The well being and engagement of the employees is a core part of the strategy for success. The work/life balance is better than at any other point in my career. Compensation and benefits are really quite good. COVID has decreased the benefits slightly, but these are far from normal times. The mission of the company is critically important and it is very easy to find purpose in what we do. Dan does a terrific job of living up to the company values and reinforcing them regularly.

Cons

We have a lot of work in front of us to ensure the future sustainability of the company. The IPO extended our window of opportunity, but success is far from assured. The DOS platform lags behind most commercial platforms in both scalability and functionality. Our Services and Product teams need to find new ways to deliver value to our clients faster and more affordably. The market is getting more mature and competitive daily and we need to raise our game meet these challenges. I have started to see signs of acknowledgment that our technology strategy needs to change, but we need to move faster and be open to new ideas. I know of several incredibly talented individuals that have left the company do to their frustrations over these concerns and I know of others that have contemplated their options. Move quickly before we lose the kind of talent that can help drive the solutions we need.

Thank you for this review, and thank you for your 10+ years of dedicated service to our company! I appreciate your positive feedback about what you love about Health Catalyst, and we'll work to reinforce those elements moving forward. I also appreciate your feedback about our need to strengthen our technology position and leadership, including in our data platform (DOS) layer. I agree with this needed focus, and we'll discuss more of this initiative, which we have kicked off as part of our 2021 planning process, and concurrent with Bryan Hinton's new role as CTO, and I believe we will make some important decisions to focus and strengthen and improve moving forward. We've also benefited from an outside review of our technology that has been underway for several months, which is informing our planning process moving forward. We'll keep working hard to improve, and there will always be areas for needed improvement! Thank you for contributing to that improvement and success! Best, Dan

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I appreciate the thoughtful recognition of our collaborative culture and the meaningful work the team does together. How we work together matters just as much as what we do. Our operating principles and cultural attributes remain foundational. To address your concerns about processes and roles, as the organization evolves, we’re prioritizing clarity in these areas to better support teams. There’s real momentum building right now, and the work ahead is meaningful. I’m grateful for you and the role you play here, and I’m excited about what we’re building together.

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
