Pros

I really like the work that I do and the people that I work with. Communication is open and the environment has always been respectful. Compensation is fair for the healthcare space (maybe a little better) but across all industries compensation is average. Benefits are above average. A truly remote work environment and there has never been a return-to-office expectation. I feel like I have the stewardship to make decisions that are best for the customers I work with. There are some economic indicators that hint that the healthcare industry may be improving.

Cons

The technology that I use to do my job is 15 to 20 years old and substantially out of date but this is generally consistent the provider side of healthcare. There just isn't any money in healthcare right now and growth has stagnated. This implies that working for Health Catalyst comes with above average employment risk and career advancement may be limited and slower than average.

Thanks for your thoughtful feedback. In regards to your concern about an outdated tech stack, I am excited that we recently announced our next-generation data and analytics platform, Ignite, to ensure that we are using the latest, best-in-class technology in our work with our clients. And I know there have been economic head winds, and I believe and agree with you in that we are seeing a shift in that and I am excited about re-accelerating our growth. Thanks for your support and your years of contributions to our success. Best, Dan Burton

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
