There's a gash in the ceiling of the lab where shards of an exploding MODEL 3 nearly penetrated the roof of the building two stories up. That was during a test that was meant to show how badly things could go wrong in a worst case scenario. I'm not saying that the same thing is going to happen in a customer's house some day, but the thought of it sure kept me awake at night. None of the original designers of the flagship product are still at the company, and no one who is there now really knows why it was designed as it is, nor do they know why it doesn't work reliably. It seems to me that when something is capable of turning into a bomb if it doesn't work right, you should damn well know what you're doing when you try to redesign it.
The lab is a great place to work if you don't mind the very real risk of electrocution and if you're not terrified at the thought of superheated steam blowing in your face. Seriously, find a job anywhere else.
